Comets Suffer First Loss

After defeating two 5A opponents this season, the Comets fell short of knocking off a third as they suffered their first loss of the season to the East Ascension Spartans Friday night in Gonzales by a score of 21-2. The Comets are now 4-1 for the season.

On the Comets first drive, the Comets threw an interception giving the Spartans good field position. The Spartans were able to capitalize with a 52 yard touchdown run by Jimel London. In the middle of the first quarter, defensive end Gavin St. Pierre forced a Spartan fumble and it was recovered by defensive back Bryce Authement. The Comets were unable to capitalize on the turnover.

A couple of scoreless drives later, the Spartans were able to drive down the field and score their second touchdown of the game on a 17 yard run by London with 6:18 left in the pic second quarter. The Comets had one more possession before halftime and moved down the field with the two minute offense but it resulted in a missed field goal. The Comets trailed 14-0 at halftime.
