Across the River
A TUB IS A TUB EXCEPT WHEN IT’S NOT: One of my favorite stores had a stack of No. 3 tubs out front and I had to smile. If you must wonder what a No. 3 tub is, then you’ve likely never used one. The most popular use is to clean and purge crawfish before boiling. It was used to wash potatoes, carrots, peanuts and other vegetables from the garden. Those tubs were also used as a bathtub. We rinsed off dirty boots and dirty toes in the tub, and sometimes we were so dirty we had to take a dip in the tub, cold water in the summer and warm water from the stovetop in the colder temperatures. What fun it was to have water from the garden sprinkler drizzled over our head. Those were fun times.
