I have a hunch that someone in the Lutcher-Gramercy-Convent area still has the diamond ring won by their grandmother or great grandmother in the Miss St. James contest held in January 1942. The contest was staged by the Joy and Lutcher theaters under the sponsorship of theater manager Phil Duncan. The winner received a diamond ring purchased from Antin’s Jewelers. St. John Theatre has announced the cast for its fall production of The Odd Couple: Female Version by Neil Simon. Performances will take place November 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and November 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the historic theatre, located at 115 W. 5th Street in Reserve. The production is directed by Mike Brooks.
