Town of Gramercy Accountant Doreen Lang recommended to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen that they vote against a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with St. James Parish that would pave the way for qualifying businesses to receive a one-time, $1,000 stimulus check from the Parish.
St. James Parish Sheriff Claude J. Louis, Jr. reports on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, deputies arrested Desmond Jamal Williams (38-year-old male from the Vacherie area) for illegally possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Two items decided at previous meetings were back on the agenda of the St. James Parish Council last week.
Last Saturday afternoon (between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.) and into late Sunday morning (around 11:00 a.m.), citizens in the towns of Lutcher and Gramercy found themselves smack dab in the middle of a foul and noxious odor that had many people wondering what it was and whether it was safe to inhale.
