MONICA

Mike began his journey here on earth on September 23, 1939. His journey ended on August 24, 2021.

Mike was a man of many talents. He was an accomplished musician, starting his music career at the age of 6. He never took music lessons, he watched his mother as she played and learned from her. When he was 7 years old, his parents would take him to New Orleans for voice lessons and he would sing on the radio at a local studio. He had his own band at the age of 16. He played at local dances, proms, and other functions. He graduated from Lutcher High School and went to LSU where he played in the LSU band. Even though he went to LSU, he was an avid Alabama fan. Mike loved old cars-mostly 50 Chevy’s and had quite a collection. He was an artist. Many of his paintings are hanging in his home and shop. He loved to build and fly remote control airplanes-WWII being his favorite. He also collected comic books, 45 rpm records, and other memorabilia. Music was always his first passion and after he retired from playing, he made several CD’s that he gave to friends who loved his music. The last one in 2018.

Mike is survived by his wife, Argie DeArmond Monica; son, Roy Monica and his family; daughter, Mimi Denova and her family; sister-in-law, Betty Simoneaux and her family; bonus son, Brian Taylor and his family; his nieces, Ann and Mary and their families; his many friends and his cats, Annie and Buttons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Monica; brother, Ronald Monica; and his beloved cat, Tinkerbell.
