“Sharpening the Focus of the Church”
Last week I was honored to attend the celebration of my Aunt Judy Duhon’s 80th birthday.
Tuesday was truly an amazingly beautiful day in Louisiana. The view of the neighborhood from my back door was surreal. I couldn’t open my front door because of all the snow on the porch. My soon-to-be-90-yearold dad said he could not remember this amount of snowfall here in Louisiana. The day was great for memory-making with families making snowmen, snow angels, and having friendly snowball fights. I hope they all enjoyed the once-in-a-lifetime event. I enjoyed looking outside periodically to see the steady snow fall and collection as the white blanketed our lawns. By noon there was no way to tell the driveway from the yard and the ditches from the streets. I enjoyed seeing all the photos on social media, especially the photos of the children and children at heart as they made the most of a most unusual day. Thanks to all who stayed off the streets and all the first responders who maintained their posts in case of emergency. Many people of our parish live in substandard housing without heat. Those families were invited to warming stations in parish-owned buildings located throughout the parish. Thanks to the parish for opening the buildings for that use and to parish personnel for manning those sites. Thanks to District 7 Councilman Donald Nash for going out to check on his constituents on Monday evening. Thanks to Sheriff Claude Louis, Jr. for his reminders. Sheriff Louis and Parish President made the right decision to impose a curfew throughout the parish. The traffic had been building with more cars driving through the streets. That is way too risky. We will make it through the snow and ice. Both are only temporary and certainly not a usual site for us. Enjoy it while you can because it may not happen again in our lifetime.
Bible reading methods vary. It’s not recommended to randomly open the Bible and read the first verse you see, but it worked for one person.
