LOCAL CONNECTION TO ABRAHAM LINCOLN: A few days ago, I received a note from Chris Guidry who lives in Paulina and works at OxyChem. Chris thought our readers might appreciate knowing more about the connection between Abraham Lincoln and St. James and Ascension parishes, especially since the Lincoln statue was stolen from the Houmas House.
It’s always a bit sad to see our summer vegetable gardens peter out as the season comes to a close. Those once-verdant plants are now fading as the long, hot summer takes its toll.

A native of Vacherie, Dr. Clarke attended Nicholls State University and earned his degree in Biology from Xavier University in New Orleans. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
The Lutcher Lady Bulldog Volleyball team began its season on a high note defeating the Riverside Lady Rebels by set scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.
