St. Micheal Church Shines As Host Of First Ever Féte Dieu Du Mississippi
More than 2,500 Catholic parishioners and pilgrims gathered at St. Michael Church in Convent last Wednesday evening through Thursday morning to participate in the Féte Dieu Du Mississippi 2024 and be part of the once-in-a-lifetime experience and celebration of their Catholic faith.
Live Each Day Like A Hibiscus
With several hundred types of hibiscus, one could write a book on this plant alone - and many have done so. The name hibiscus gets its origins from the ancient Greek word “hibiskos,” which means marsh mallow or white mallow. Greek physician Dioscorides, who served in the Roman army, is credited with giving the plant this name.
Roussel Wins Miss St. James Parish Pageant
On Saturday, August 10, 2024, the Miss St. James Parish Sugar Queen Committee celebrated its 71st annual Miss St. James Parish and 32nd Miss Teen St. James Parish Pageant. The pageant was held at Lutcher High School Auditorium in Lutcher. The mistress of ceremonies was Amanda Dufresne Rodrigues of Paulina, our 2017 Miss St James, and the master of ceremonies was Seth Bourgeois of Paulina. The theme for this year’s pageant was “Celebrating 71 Years”.
