Walk-In Flu Vaccines

Walk-in Flu Vaccines are now being offered through St. James Urgent Care in Lutcher from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Patients who are coming in for previously scheduled appointments with their primary care physician, are encouraged to ask about the flu vaccine during their visit.

September Is PAD Awareness Month

September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month. PAD is a chronic circulatory condition, which if left untreated can result in unnecessary limb amputations. PAD affects nearly 20 million Americans and an estimated 200,000 of them – disproportionately from minority communities– suffer avoidable amputations every year. St. James Parish Hospital’s Wound Care Team is supporting PAD Awareness efforts by sharing tips from the American Heart Association and reinforcing the importance of ongoing foot checks and early wound care for patients with PAD.

Man Found Dead Along Railroad Tracks In Gramercy; Suspected Drug Overdose

A 47-year old Mississippi man who was residing in Gramercy was found dead near the railroad tracks in the heart of Gramercy. The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office says last Wednesday, September 21st, at approximately 6:45 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a body being found along East Railroad Avenue near the Golden Grove Baptist Church. After investigating the call, police said Luis Manuel Sanchez Santos was currently living on North Pine St. in Gramercy and at the time there was no sign of foul play or that a crime had been committed.

Seniors Get Schooled On How To Avoid Getting Scammed

Last Thursday at the West Bank Reception Hall in Vacherie, senior citizens from St. James Parish gathered to learn about the ins and outs of the numerous scams that often prey upon the elderly and how to avoid falling victim to a scam. The “Protecting Our Seniors” event, which has been an annual event for many years, was put on by the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office and the day is geared to be a one-stop shop for seniors where they are educated and given the tools and resources to help them avoid being taken advantage of by scammers.
