Lutcher native and newly elected 23rd Judicial District Judge Keyojuan Gant Turner served as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaker at the yearly service commemorating the civil rights leader’s birthday.
After dedicating the last 23 & 1/2 years of her life to teaching and inspiring students in Assumption and St. James Parishes, Vacherie native and beloved St. James High teacher Cecile Armant is closing the door to her classroom and opening up another where she hopes to continue to inspire and help others.
The St. James Parish NAACP Chapter invites the public to join the organization for it’s 2024 banquet.
Martin Luther King, Jr. played a pivotal role in race relations in the United States for nearly a decade. He helped secure the end of legal segregation of African-American citizens, created the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and served as a source of inspiration for black individuals across the globe.
