Moratorium Gives Parish Council Time To Study Effects Of Solar Farms

After an hour-long public hearing last Wednesday, August 17th, the St. James Parish Council voted 6-1 in favor of implementing a moratorium to temporarily hault any solar panel farms from being built in the Parish and to give the Council until the end of March 2023 to study the effects of such farms would have on future residential and commercial growth in Vacherie. DESRI Inc., a renewable energy company which develops, constructs, owns, and manages solar and wind power generation and battery storage projects, is interested in building a solar panel farm on 4,000 acres of sugarcane land farmed separately by the Gravois and Rodrigue families.

I, Dwan Bowser, would like to announce my candidacy for re-election for the office of Chief of Police for the Town of Lutcher. I have resided in Lutcher for 56 years. I attended St. James Parish Schools, graduating from Lutcher High School in 1984. I am a graduate of Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Post Training Academy and South-Central Louisiana Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. While there I served as the Senator of the Student Government Association. I currently serve as the Chief of Police for the Town of Lutcher and my previous years with St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office total 18 years Law Enforcement experience which makes me the most qualified candidate. I am a member of Greater King Triumph Baptist Church and serve as a Deacon, a member of the Board of Directors, and a Minister of Transportation. I am also a member of the Louisiana Chief of Police Association, Southeast Chiefs, Lutcher Quarterback Club, National Technical Honors Society.
