Moratorium Gives Parish Council Time To Study Effects Of Solar Farms
After an hour-long public hearing last Wednesday, August 17th, the St. James Parish Council voted 6-1 in favor of implementing a moratorium to temporarily hault any solar panel farms from being built in the Parish and to give the Council until the end of March 2023 to study the effects of such farms would have on future residential and commercial growth in Vacherie. DESRI Inc., a renewable energy company which develops, constructs, owns, and manages solar and wind power generation and battery storage projects, is interested in building a solar panel farm on 4,000 acres of sugarcane land farmed separately by the Gravois and Rodrigue families.
