Though Floyd A. Marshall, Sr. is no longer with us, his influence remains – still guiding, still inspiring, and still making a difference. A dedicated Guidance Counselor at St. James High School, Mr. Marshall devoted his career to helping students pursue higher education, secure scholarships, and reach their fullest potential.
Twenty-third Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin’s office reports on October 10, 2025, a St. James Parish Jury found 41year-old Edward Young III of 2184 Levy Gaudet St., Lutcher, LA, guilty of the following charges: *Attempted 1st Degree Murder of a Police Officer *Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities *Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm Young was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Adam Koenig and Bruce Mohon and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.
With those headline words spoken by Mayor Steven Bourgeois, the Board of Aldermen and the Mayor unanimously passed a resolution supporting the St. James Parish ordinance to amend the Land Use Ordinance changing the Shady Grove area in Convent from agricultural to industrial use. Town officials said nothing about the families who live in the area and the farming businesses owned by those families.
The first of two public hearings on the St. James Parish Council’s ordinance changing the land use designation of property in Convent was held Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Convent. A second hearing will be held prior to the next meeting in Vacherie on Wednesday, June 17th.
